Through out high school, I used with Word, Excel and PowerPoint in school to complete my assignments. However at home I have a Mac so I would also use the Mac equivalent of these applications such as Pages. I did find the Microsoft applications to work better for school because they are more universally used by everyone else and if I used the Mac applications I would have to convert them. I also used Edmodo in school, this is set up like Facebook but is used for teachers to post assignments. I was not a fan of Edmodo because to many of my teachers would rely solely on Edmodo to teach us instead of them teaching us. I also have experience using Smart Boards, Promethean Boards, Projectors, and Elmos but that is limited because I was usually watching the teacher use them. These are all technologies teachers would use to teach the lessons. I also know how to use iClickers to answer test questions and program in answers.
I hope to learn more about Smart Boards work and other boards that teachers tend to put their lessons up on. Even though I have used them before, I do not know how to turn them on, make sure they are working properly, and connect my computer to them. I also want to learn more about different ways to incorporate iPads into the classroom as well as laptops. I have seen teachers use many different interactive apps to help students learn and I want to know more about what these apps do for students in terms of learning and how I can use them.
I learned I am pretty balanced between active and reflective learner; I do lean more towards the active side. Being more of an active learner means I tend to learn better by discussing what is going on because it starts to connect once I am speaking allowed about it. I am a sensing learner because I prefer facts and figures to help me learn. I am a very analytical person so when I have numbers to help me out it makes it easier for me to understand what is going on but I do not like having to draw my own conclusions because then I feel like I will get the wrong results. I am more of a verbal learner because I prefer to see notes written on the board and to recopy my notes and make notecards to learn. I need to see it in writing so when it comes to taking the test I can recall the information better. I am also a sequential learner because I like following steps and do not like straying to far from them. I have a hard time completing task if I do not have a schedule to follow to make sure I get them done.
Great post, Caroline! It sounds like you have a very well-rounded knowledge of both hardware and software. I, too, am a primary Mac-user and it can often be difficult to make the transition to the PC platform. It's great that you have experience with both!
ReplyDeleteI am also a visual learner because I need to see notes written on the board and recopy them. I also hope to learn more about Smart Boards.
